Chairman of the Ruhunu Tourist Bureau, P.G.G.S. Jayan, participated in the final conference of the Dutch - Ceylon Conference on Reimagining Sri Lanka Tourism 2026, held on 26th March at the Mangata Ayurveda and Wellness Hotel in Galle. The event was honoured by the presence of Mr. Iwan Rutjens, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, as the Guest of Honour.
The conference jointly organized by Rajarata University of Sri Lanka (RUSL) and Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUAS) Netherlands, marked the successful conclusion of a one month field immersion programme in the Galle region. Four student groups presented insightful, research driven perspectives on the future of Galle as a tourism destination, highlighting key trends, challenges, and opportunities across the industry.
The conference was initiated by Prof. W.H.M.S. Samarathunga of RUSL together with Prof. Erdinรง รakmak and Prof. Jos van der Sterren of BUAS, creating a valuable platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration among academia and industry stakeholders.
As a government stakeholder, the Ruhunu Tourist Bureau was pleased to support this initiative by providing industry insights and engaging with students throughout the programme. The discussions and presentations offered valuable ideas and forward-thinking concepts that will contribute to shaping a sustainable and competitive future for tourism in the region.
The Managing Director Nishantha Samarathunga and several other officials of the Ruhunu Tourist Bureau also participated in the event, further strengthening the Bureauโs commitment to fostering meaningful partnerships between academia and the tourism industry. ๐ฟ๐
